New wells for Bonga deepwater oilfield

The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company has announced plans to enter phase three of its project on Bonga deepwater oilfield, drilling eight new wells. Drilling is to start in 2015 with a predicted production of 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The Bonga field, located in OML 118, was Nigeria’s first deepwater oilfield in depths of 1,000 metres. The production will be running through an already existing floating production, storage and offloading facility on the Bonga Main development. The facility’s current rate of production is 200,000 barrels of oil and 4.25 mcm (150 mcf) of gas a day.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company owns the lease on OML 118 and the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company holds the majority stake at 55 percent. The other stakeholders are Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria with 20 percent and Total E&P Nigeria and Nigerian Agip Exploration, each with 12.5 percent.
