NNPC, Seplat agree on 96.3-mcm gas project

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Seplat Petroleum Development have signed five agreements on a 96.3-mcm (3.4-bcf) project, the NOC announced Monday.

Set to be completed by 2020, Assa North and Ohaji South (ANOH) gas development is one of the NNPC’s seven critical gas development projects.

“Following the execution of heads of terms (HoT) by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company (NGPTC) on behalf of the NNPC, Seplat and AGPC on December 19, 2017, the steering committee for the AGPC [ANOH Gas Processing Company] project has provided the leadership and broad guidance for the development and finalisation of the various commercial agreements required to underpin the project,” NNPC group managing director Maikanti Baru said in a statement.

Seplat COO Austin Avuru said the project would be a key gas supplier to both the domestic and export market.

Located about 25 kilometres from Owerri, the Imo state capital, and 70 kilometres from Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, Assa North-Ohaji South is one of the largest greenfield gas condensate development projects in Nigeria. Assa North field is situated in the northeastern segment of OML 21, which is owned by NNPC (55%), Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (30%), Total E&P Nigeria (10%) and Nigerian Agip Oil Company (5%). The undeveloped Ohaji South field is in the Seplat-operated contiguous OML 53 licence.
