Northern Ocean wins deepwater work in Ghana
ACCRA, September 27, 2024 – Ghanian independent oil and gas player Springfield Group has signed on Northern Ocean’s Deepsea Bollsta rig for an appraisal of the Afina 1x well and other activities, Northern Ocean announced on Thursday.
Springfield is the operator and majority interest holder of West Cape Three Points Block 2 Offshore Ghana (WCTP2), which covers 673 square kilometres in the Tano Basin. The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and GNPC Explorco, its exploration company, hold the remaining interest.
The firm contract duration for one well test is estimated to be 30-35 days and the agreed clean day rate is $440,000, excluding mobilisation and demobilisation. Operations are expected to commence early in Q4 2024.
Along with the engagement, Springfield and Northern Ocean have signed a strategic alliance that includes a mutual exclusivity period that runs until January 1, 2025, to explore a long-term field development programme in Ghana. Should the companies decide to go ahead with the programme, development drilling would start in mid-2025.
“The appraisal of Afina 1x through a well test helps finalise the unitisation between Springfield, ENI and Vitol and will bring significant value to the government of Ghana and all stakeholders involved in this unitisation. Together with GNPC and GNPC Explorco, our partners, we are excited to be working with NOL in this historic drilling campaign as the first independent African company to operate in deep waters, said Kevin Okyere, CEO of Springfield.
