Ocean Installer wins North Sea EPCI contract from Norway’s Vår Energi

STAVANGER, July 1, 2025 – Ocean Installer has secured a fast-track EPCI contract from Vår Energi for the Balder Phase VI development in the Norwegian North Sea, the company said on Monday.

The project is a subsea tieback to the Jotun FPSO, which began production on June 23, and is expected to deliver first oil by end of 2026. Under the contract, Ocean Installer will perform SURF activities including fabrication and installation of flexible flowlines and umbilicals.

“Vår Energi is a key customer for Ocean Installer and the wider Moreld group,” Moreld CEO Geir Austigard said.

“It’s exciting to see that Ocean Installer signs a new contract within the same week that the Jotun FPSO starts producing first oil as part of the Balder Future project, in which Ocean Installer has played a key role.”

This deal is part of a strategic partnership with Vår Energi initiated in June 2022, continuing a collaboration that dates back to 2019.

“Working together with Vår Energi to utilise existing infrastructure and previous experience has significantly shortened the overall project timeline,” Ocean Installer chief executive Kevin Murphy said.

Ocean Installer is a subsea engineering and construction company based in Norway, providing services in SURF, moorings and rigid pipelines. It operates globally with a strong focus on the North Sea, West Africa and the Americas.
