Oil India and TotalEnergies join in deepwater exploration
NEW DELHI, November 20, 2025 – Oil India Limited (OIL) and TotalEnergies have signed a technology services agreement to jointly explore India’s deep and ultra-deepwater offshore basins, OIL announced on Wednesday.
The agreement, signed in New Delhi, will give OIL access to TotalEnergies’ global deepwater expertise and help support its ongoing and future offshore activities, including the appraisal of a gas discovery in the Andaman Basin and exploration in the Mahanadi and Krishna-Godavari basins, which the company secured in the OALP IX bid round.
The deal also covers support for stratigraphic well initiatives and the evaluation of opportunities in upcoming OALP X and future bid rounds. The collaboration aligns with India’s push for expanded offshore exploration to boost domestic hydrocarbons output.
TotalEnergies operates in multiple energy segments in India, including gas, renewables, fuels and lubricants. In gas, the company is a shareholder in gas distribution company Adani Total Gas and a joint-venture partner with Adani Total Power in the Dhamra LNG regasification terminal. In renewables, TotalEnergies develops solar and onshore wind projects through a joint venture with Adani Green Energy.
