Oman’s OTTCO hits 17 million tonnes export from Ras Markaz

MUSCAT, May 26, 2025 – OQ infrastructure development subsidiary Oman Tank Terminal Company (OTTCO) has exported petroleum products totalling 17 million tonnes from the Ras Markaz Terminal since operations began in 2023, local media reported on Saturday.

Located in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, the terminal handled 491 vessels and also imported more than 950 million barrels of crude oil during the period.

Operated by OTTCO, Ras Markaz Terminal supports the Duqm Refinery via an 80-kilometre crude oil pipeline and features eight tanks, floating platforms and a 7-kilometre subsea pipeline, as well as high-speed loading systems. The 40-square-kilometre site is capable of storing up to 200 million barrels of oil and offers international storage options outside the Strait of Hormuz.

“These achievements are the result of the company’s commitment to the highest standards of safety and operational excellence, reinforcing its position as a key hub for ensuring energy security for Oman, as well as for regional and international markets,” said OTTCO CEO Salem bin Marhoon al Hashmi in a statement to the Oman News Agency.

The company has signed an agreement with Dutch storage company Royal Vopak to develop Duqm into a global centre for storage services, aiming to improve access to global markets for Omani petroleum products and boost the capabilities of the domestic energy logistics sector.

The partnership will also bring capabilities for the storage and handling of ammonia and green hydrogen, with initial studies towards storage and export infrastructure already under way.
