ONGC makes twin discoveries offshore India

NEW DELHI, May 12, 2023 – ONGC has made two significant oil and gas discoveries on the MB-OSHP-2017/1 block off India’s west coast, the Indian NOC announced on Thursday.

The two discoveries MBS171HAA-1 and MBS182HDA-1 have been dubbed Amrit and Moonga respectively and are described as remarkable finds.

The plays sit on the prolific Mumbai basin.

The NOC is currently analysing geological data, with estimated sizes of the finds not disclosed.

“The discovery represents a momentous achievement, underscoring exploration dedication to expanding domestic production and reducing India’s reliance on imported oil and gas,” said Sushma Rawat, director of exploration of ONGC.

The company has alerted the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the findings.

Awards for the concessions were handed out during India’s Open Acreage Licensing Policy rounds.
