Pemex, Zama consortium vie for unitisation

In Mexico’s first attempt at unitisation, a consortium of Block 7 partners and NOC Pemex have agreed on a pre-unitisation deal regarding the Zama oilfield, international media reported on Thursday.

Located in the shallow waters of the Southeastern Basins, the Zama field is part of the 465-square-kilometre Block 7, which is operated by US-based Talos Energy (35%), Sierra Oil & Gas (40%) and Premier Oil (25%).

The consortium and Pemex submitted a notice of pre-unitisation agreement to the Secretariat of Energy.

Initial tests have indicated that Zama could hold up to 1.4 billion-2 billion barrels of original oil in place.
