Perenco Congo launches Kombi 2 platform in $200-million project phase
POINTE-NOIRE, June 16, 2025 – Perenco Congo has launched a USD 200-million offshore development phase with the construction of the Kombi 2 platform, the company said on Thursday.
The platform, currently under construction by Dixstone at the Nieuwdorp shipyard in the Netherlands, will be installed on the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II permit off the Republic of Congo.
The facility will recover 198,000 cubic metres (7 mcf) of gas per day, power its operations using two gas turbines linked to a 33-kV hub, and support the recovery of up to 20 million barrels through optimisation of existing wells and integration of new ones.
The platform is scheduled to depart for Congo in October 2025 and become operational in early 2026, Perenco said.
During a site visit, Minister of Hydrocarbons Bruno Jean Richard Itoua and Perenco’s partners SNPC, AOGC and Petrocongo reiterated their joint commitment to sustainable oil development in the country.
“This project demonstrates a solid, lasting partnership built on mutual trust. For over twenty years, Perenco has been working alongside the Republic of Congo to develop the country’s resources while strengthening infrastructure, local expertise and energy sovereignty,” Perenco CEO Armel Simondin said.
“Kombi 2 is fully in line with our commitment to performance, operational safety and environmental responsibility,” Perenco Congo managing director Stéphane Barc said.
The project supports a broader investment programme linked to the renewal of the Ikalou II and Likouala II permits, valued at nearly USD 900 million. This includes workovers, drilling and infrastructure upgrades, and aims to contribute to the national production target of 500,000 boepd by 2030.
Perenco Congo and Congorep jointly represent Perenco in the Republic of Congo. Active in the country since 2001, Perenco Congo is an independent hydrocarbons producer covering all stages of the upstream lifecycle from exploration to decommissioning. It specialises in mature and marginal field development and produced 75,000 boepd of oil and gas in 2024. The company is a subsidiary of Perenco, which operates in 13 countries.
