Petrobras confirms gas discovery in Colombia
RIO DE JANEIRO, August 5, 2024 – Petrobras has confirmed a natural gas discovery off the coast of Colombia in the deepwater Uchuva-2 well, the company announced on Monday.
Uchuva-2 was spudded in June 2024 and is located in the Tayrona Block, about 31 kilometres offshore in water depths of approximately 804 metres. A gas-bearing interval was verified during the fourth of five drilling phases through wireline logging and will be further examined through laboratory analyses.
Drilling operations are set to continue to characterise the conditions of the reservoirs found, and the company expects to carry out a formation test by the end of 2024.
According to Petrobras, the discovery confirms the extent of the gas discovery made in 2022 with the drilling of the Uchuva-1 well and reinforces the volumetric potential for gas in the region, which the company plans to continue exploring.
Petrobras operates the asset with a 44.4% interest, with Colombia’s Ecopetrol holding the remaining 55.6%.
