Qatar hands $13-bln LNG deal to Chiyoda-Technip JV

Qatar Petroleum (QP) has awarded a USD 13-billion contract for four LNG trains for the giant North Field Expansion project to a joint venture of Chiyoda and Technip Energies.

Part of the North Field East project, each train will have a capacity of 8 million tonnes per year (tpy).

QP CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi told a press conference on Monday that the first expansion phase would cost USD 28.75 billion.

Qatar holds 24.7 tcm (871.6 tcf) of gas reserves, most of it located in the offshore North Field. At present, the country has a capacity of 77 million tpy of LNG, produced by 14 trains operated by qatargas/’>Qatargas.

The North Field East project is poised to add 32 million tpy, helping the country reach a capacity of 110 million tpy by 2024. The project will also yield 287,000 boepd of condensate and 12,500 tonnes per day of LPG, as well as ethane, sulphur and helium, which will help boost Qatar’s downstream and petrochemicals sectors.

Chiyoda was awarded FEED works for the four trains in 2018.
