RUNDU, December 3, 2025 – Reconnaissance Energy Africa has encountered hydrocarbons pay in the Kavango West 1X well in Petroleum Exploration Licence 73 (PEL 73) onshore Namibia, the company announced on Wednesday.

The well encountered approximately 400 metres of gross hydrocarbon section in the Otavi carbonate formation, with 64 metres of net hydrocarbon pay confirmed by wireline logs and mud log anomalies. An additional 61 metres of hydrocarbon shows were identified in deeper zones, where natural fractures could enhance deliverability. The well was drilled to a total depth of 4,200 metres.

In view of the results, ReconAfrica has abandoned the well and is mobilising testing equipment to carry out a production test in Q1 2026. Testing is expected to run for around one month.

ReconAfrica operates PEL 73 with a 70% interest, alongside partners BW Energy, with a 20% working interest, and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia, with 10%.

“The results from this well have allowed the Company to proceed to a success-case evaluation, which includes conducting a production test of prospective intervals to determine deliverability characteristics from the well. We are excited about what the results mean for the future of the Damara Fold Belt play on ReconAfrica’s lease position onshore Namibia,” said Brian Reinsborough, president and CEO of ReconAfrica.

ReconAfrica is a Canadian oil and gas exploration company listed in Toronto and Frankfurt. The company engages in oil and gas exploration in the Damara Fold Belt and Kavango Rift Basin in northeastern Namibia, as well as in Angola, Botswana and Gabon.
