Romania’s OMV Petrom invests €21 mln in biofuels

Romanian integrated energy company OMV Petrom has completed an investment of around EUR 21 million in biofuels blending capacity, the company announced on Wednesday.

The investment was made at the company’s Petrobrazi refinery, located outside the central city of Ploiești, a centre of the country’s oil production and processing.

The refinery’s production capacity has now been expanded from 200,000 tonnes to  around 350,000 tonnes of biofuels per year. OMV Petrom supplies fuels with a volumetric bio-content of 6.5% in diesel and 8% in petrol.

“We are an energy company and we want to be part of the solution for a cleaner energy,” Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom executive board responsible for downstream oil, said.

“We are investing in obtaining fuels with a high level of biofuel content, as well as in alternative solutions for mobility and in various others sustainable projects. It is a combined effort at all levels across our company, as we aim to reduce our carbon emissions by 27% by 2025 versus 2010.”
