Samsung thrown a bone for Mad Dog 2

USA

SEOUL , January 5, 2017 – Samsung Heavy Industries in a regulatory filing on Thursday said it had been awarded a contract for the construction of a semi-submersible production unit.

Valued at USD 1.26 billion, Samsung said the work would be carried out for a “US client,” without giving further details. Evidence suggest the unit will be put to work for BP’s Mad Dog 2 endeavour. The company in December signed off on the USD 9-billion project.

The semi-submersible production unit associated with the project will have a capacity of 140,000 bopd from as many as 14 production wells, BP said. First oil is expected by the end 2021. The platform will likely be delivered by mid-August 2020 for work in more than 1,300 metres of water.
