Saudi Aramco tenders offshore EPC work

Four international engineering, procurement and construction companies have been invited to submit bids for work on the Marjan and Zuluf offshore oilfields before the end of March.

Valued at around USD 400 million-500 million, the scope of the Saudi Aramco work includes subsea cables and pipelines, platform decks and topside fibre optics, media reported over the weekend.

The four contenders for the work, which includes pre-commissioning, are US companies McDermott and Dynamic Industries, Italy’s Saipem and a partnership between India’s Larsen & Toubro and Singapore-headquartered Emas Offshore. All mentioned companies have a long-term agreement with Saudi Aramco for maintenance and upgrade work offshore in the Arabian Gulf.

McDermott has a history of working in the fields. In 2015, the company bagged a contract for power supply replacement work in the Marjan field. Three years prior to that, it executed two contracts for topsides in Marjan. McDermott’s work in Zuluf has included pipelines, subsea tie-ins and flowlines.

According to the Financial Times, Saudi officials have been in touch with US companies over the past weeks to spur additional foreign investment in sectors of the economy other than oil and gas, the paper wrote on Sunday.
