Sembcorp nets $1-bln Heerema contract

Singapore

SINGAPORE, July 15, 2015 – International operator Heerema Offshore Services (HOS) announced the award of a $1-billion contract to Singaporean firm Sembcorp Marine for the construction of a new dynamic positioning semisubmersible crane vessel (NSCV). The solidification of the contract follows an exclusive letter of intent signed between the two companies in March 2015.

The vessel is intended to be used worldwide for the installation and decommissioning of offshore facilities and is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018. HOS’ new NSCV will be outfitted with dual Huisman heavy-lifting offshore cranes, each with a lifting capacity of around 10,000 tonnes.

Once completed, the vessel will be the world’s largest dual-fuel NSCV, measuring 220 metres in length, 102 metres in width and displacing 273,000 tonnes.

Netherlands-based international operator HOS currently owns four of the largest crane vessels in the world. The company’s assets also include a fleet of vessels such as transportation barges and anchor-handling tugs.
