Shell begins production at Bonga project

The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company has started production at the Bongo Phase 2 project in Nigeria, the super-major announced Monday.

The Bonga Phase 3 project is part of the Bonga Main development. The company expects that the development will produce 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The resources will be transported through pipelines to the Bongo floating, production, storage and offloading facility, which has a capacity of 200,000 barrels of oil per day and 4.25 mcm (150 mcf) of gas per day.

“This new start-up is an important milestone for Bonga, adding valuable new production to this major facility,” Andrew Brown, Shell’s Upstream International director said in a company statement.

The Bonga field is Nigeria’s first deepwater development, producing more than 600,000 barrels of oil since 2005 at depths of more than 1,000 metres.
