Siberian pipeline to be ready in 2019

The Power of Siberia pipeline is two-thirds complete and will start supplying Russian gas to China by the end of 2019, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller announced in a speech.

“In the east, we are actively conducting the predevelopment of the Chayandinskoye field and building the linear part of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline, 1,380 kilometres of which will have been completed by the end of the year,” Miller said in comments published on Gazprom’s website on Tuesday.

“That is two-thirds of the pipeline’s length. And I can say with absolute certainty that on December 20, 2019, we will start supplying gas to China.”

Once it reaches full capacity, the Power of Siberia is expected to transport about 38 bcm (1.34 tcf) of gas per year, as part of a USD 400-billion deal struck between Russia and China in 2014.
