Drilling of the first well is set to begin before the end of the year, with the second scheduled for 2019.
The wells will help Talos assess the size of the Zama field, discovered in July 2017, and to ascertain whether the find extends into the adjacent Amoca-Yaxche-03 assignment, operated by NOC Pemex. Last week, Pemex and the Block 7 consortium reached a two-year pre-unitisation agreement for Zama’s resources, estimated at 1.4 billion-2 billion barrels of oil.
Block 7 was awarded to a consortium of operator Talos (35%), Mexico’s Sierra Oil & Gas (40%) and the UK’s Premier Oil (25%) in July 2015’s Round 1.1.
