Technip Energies lands contract for UK CCS project

LONDON, February 2, 2024 – Harbour Energy has signed a FEED contract with Technip Energies for the offshore Viking CCS project in the UK, the UK-based independent announced on Wednesday.
Works will cover the design of the carbon dioxide transportation system, including a carbon dioxide handling station, associated pipelines, and a semi-attended installation platform.
The Viking CCS project located offshore Humber on England’s northeastern coast is targeting a reduction of 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year by 2030 and up to 15 million tonnes by 2035.
The project will utilise existing pipelines and decommissioned gas fields in the Southern North Sea.
The project is led by Harbour Energy alongside its partner BP.
“After three years in development, the Viking CCS project is now entering the FEED phase,” said Jim Todd, joint venture manager for the Viking CCS project.
“This is a significant step in the journey of any project, and we are excited to welcome Technip Energies as the FEED contractor, paving the way for large-scale CCS in the South Humber and North Lincolnshire region.”
In September 2023, UK’s North Sea Transition Authority awarded 21 concessions to 14 companies in its first-ever CCS licensing round.
The first track of these projects will be carried out at two locations dubbed the Hynet and East Coast Cluster.
The second track of projects includes the Acorn and Viking CCS developments.
The UK aims to store between 20 million and 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030 and more than 50 million tonnes of carbon dioxide by 2035.
