TotalEnergies, OQ reach FID on Marsa LNG in Oman

MUSCAT, April 22, 2024 – TotalEnergies and OQ, Oman’s national oil company, have reached a FID on the Marsa LNG project in Oman, TotalEnergies announced on Monday.

The Marsa LNG project contemplates the production of 4.25 mcm (150 mcf) per day of natural gas at the Mabrouk North East field on onshore Block 10 and the construction of a 1-million tpy LNG liquefaction plant at the port of Sohar, on Oman’s northern coast.

LNG production is expected to begin in Q1 2028 and is primarily intended to serve the marine fuel market in the Gulf. LNG that is not sold as bunker fuel will be taken by TotalEnergies (80%) and OQ (20%) in proportion to their interest stakes in the project.

The Marsa LNG plant will be 100% electrically driven and supplied with solar power from a dedicated 300-MWp PV solar plant.

“We are especially pleased to deploy the two pillars of our transition strategy, LNG and renewables, and thus support the Sultanate on a new scale in the sustainable development of its energy resources,” said Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.

EPC contracts have been awarded to Technip Energies for the LNG plant and to CB&I for the LNG tank, which will have a capacity of 165,000 cubic metres.
