TotalEnergies, Eni, QatarEnergy expand exploration offshore Lebanon

BEIRUT, January 9, 2026 – TotalEnergies and partners Eni and QatarEnergy have signed an agreement with the Lebanese government to explore a new block offshore Lebanon, the French company said on Friday.
The consortium will begin by conducting a 1,200-square-kilometre 3D-seismic survey to assess the area’s potential. The move follows disappointing results from the Qana well drilled in a neighbouring block in 2023.
“Although the drilling of the Qana well on Block 9 did not give positive results, we remain committed to pursue our exploration activities in Lebanon,” TotalEnergies chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné said.
TotalEnergies operates in Lebanon alongside Eni and QatarEnergy, focusing on offshore exploration activities. The French major entered the Lebanese upstream sector in 2018 and leads exploration efforts in both of the country’s offshore licensed areas.
