TotalEnergies, Holcim launch Europe’s largest floating solar plant for industrial use

GHENT, March 20, 2026 – TotalEnergies and Holcim have inaugurated a 31-MW floating solar power plant in Belgium to supply renewable electricity to industrial operations, the company said on Friday.
Located in Obourg on a rehabilitated former quarry, the facility will generate 30 GWh per year for self-consumption by Holcim’s sites, making it the largest floating solar power plant in Europe dedicated to self-consumption, with more than 700 metres of horizontal directional drilling used to connect the installation to the grid.
“We are delighted to inaugurate this floating solar power plant, which demonstrates TotalEnergies’ teams’ ability to innovate to meet the needs of our partner Holcim,” managing director retail power and gas Belgium Olivier Greiner said.
TotalEnergies is a global energy company active across hydrocarbons and electricity, with a growing portfolio spanning solar, wind and flexible generation assets, and more than 34 GW of renewable capacity as of early 2026. In Belgium, the company focuses on delivering integrated power solutions to industrial clients supporting decarbonisation.
