TotalEnergies launches 1.2 GW of solar projects in USA
HOUSTON, September 30, 2024 – TotalEnergies has brought 1.2 GW of capacity on line at the Danish Fields and Cottonwood utility-scale solar farms in Texas, the company announced on Monday.
The farms, which have integrated battery storage, are part of a 4-GW portfolio of renewable assets the company has in operation or under construction in the US state.
The Danish Fields project is TotalEnergies’ largest solar farm in the USA, with 1.4 million ground-mounted photovoltaic panels delivering an output capacity of 720 MWp. It also hosts a 225-MWh battery storage system supplied by TotalEnergies battery subsidiary Saft.
Meanwhile, the Cottonwood project has 847,000 ground-mounted photovoltaic panels providing an output capacity of 455 MWp and hosts 225 MWh of battery storage supplied by Saft, scheduled for commissioning in 2025.
“The start-ups of Danish Fields and Cottonwood in the fast-growing ERCOT [Electric Reliability Council of Texas] market showcase TotalEnergies’ ability to deliver competitive renewable electricity to support our clients’ decarbonisation goals, as well as our own,” said Olivier Jouny, senior vice-president for renewables at TotalEnergies.
“Thanks to these projects, we are delighted to take another step in delivering our strategy across the entire value chain, from power generation to customer delivery, in order to achieve our profitability target of 12% ROACE in our Integrated Power business.”
