TotalEnergies prepares for offshore Namibia probe
WINDHOEK, October 27, 2023 – French energy giant TotalEnergies has set plans to begin tests on a new appraisal well in Namibia’s Orange basin, Upstream Online reported on Thursday.
According to TotalEnergie’s CEO Patrick Pouyanne, the Venus-1A appraisal well will be drilled this week by semi-submersible rig Deepsea Mira to assess the size of the Venus field.
The move follows significant finds made at the Venus-1X well in February 2022.
The Venus field is located on Block 2913B in water depths of around 3,000 metres.
TotalEnergies operates the concession with a 20% stake alongside partners QatarEnergy, Impact Oil and Gas and National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia.
Earlier in October, TotalEnergies launched a bid process for a five-year drilling contract worth more than USD 800 million for the offshore Venus project.
