US LNG export facilities certified for expansion

Two LNG export projects have each received state approval to expand their operations in Texas and Louisiana, the US Department of Energy announced on Wednesday.

The Golden Pass LNG facility in Sabine Pass, Texas, plans to up capacity by 2.5 million tonnes per year to 18.1 million tonnes per year.

QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil are partnered on the project with 70% and 30% shares respectively. The duo completed their final investment decision on the expansion in February 2019.

The Magnolia LNG facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana, will raise its capacity by 800,000 tonnes per year to 8.8 million tonnes per year.

Owner Glenfarne Group had previously said the final investment decision on the Magnolia LNG project would be completed by the end of 2023.
