Canada

CALGARY, February 20, 2024 – Worley has been picked by Imperial Oil to provide field construction services for an in-pit tailings infrastructure project at the Kearl oil sands facility in Alberta, Canada, the Australian engineering and services heavyweight announced yesterday.

The contract follows a 2021 engagement for field construction and module fabrication at the same location. The value of this contract, which is expected to last two years, was not disclosed.

Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley, said, “Having worked together for more than 30 years, we’re pleased to continue strengthening our relationship with Imperial by expanding our services to the Kearl facility.”

Located 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Kearl is considered one of Canada’s highest-quality oil sands deposits, with an estimated 4.6 billion barrels of recoverable bitumen resources. Current production stands at around 220,000 bopd. Kearl is jointly owned by Imperial (71%) and ExxonMobil (21%).
