The pilot will entail the drilling of nine horizontal wells to test gas prospects in 2018 and 2019. The plan is being analysed by the Ministry of Energy and Mining and could be approved to begin by May.
Based on the results, the companies could invest another USD 450 million in 2019-2021 for 35 additional wells and the construction of field infrastructure, including a gas treatment plant with a capacity of 2 mcm (70.6 mcf) per day.
