YPF, Pluspetrol put $160 mln in gas pilot
NEUQUÉN, April 9, 2018 – YPF and Pluspetrol will together spend USD 160 million on a pilot project in the La Calera block in the Vaca Muerta shale play, local media reported over the weekend.
The pilot will entail the drilling of nine horizontal wells to test gas prospects in 2018 and 2019. The plan is being analysed by the Ministry of Energy and Mining and could be approved to begin by May.
Based on the results, the companies could invest another USD 450 million in 2019-2021 for 35 additional wells and the construction of field infrastructure, including a gas treatment plant with a capacity of 2 mcm (70.6 mcf) per day.
The Argentinian NOC and local major are engaged in a 50-50 joint venture in the 230-square-kilometre La Calera block.
