SapuraOMV Upstream brings key Malaysia gasfield on line
KUALA LUMPUR, July 12, 2024 – SapuraOMV Upstream has launched gas production at its operated Jerun field off the coast of Malaysia, partner Shell said on Friday.
The field’s platform has the capacity to produce 15.5 mcm (550 mcf) per day of natural gas, along with 15,000 boepd of condensates.
The Jerun field is operated by SapuraOMV Upstream (40%) in partnership with Shell (30%) and Petronas Carigali (30%).
Located around 160 kilometres northwest of Bintulu in Sarawak, the field was discovered in 2015 under the SK408 production-sharing contract.
Comprising an integrated central processing platform, Jerun will export gas through a new 80-kilometre pipeline into the E11RB production hub, for onward delivery to Bintulu based customers including Malaysia LNG.
“Jerun was a highly attractive investment for Shell, building on our interests in this important region off the coast of Sarawak, offshore Malaysia, where Shell operates the Timi platform and has the Rosmari-Marjoram project under construction,” Shell’s integrated gas and upstream director, Zoë Yujnovich, said in a press release.
TotalEnergies fully acquired SapuraOMV Upstream in April, taking the remaining 50% from Sapura Upstream Assets for USD 530 million. The deal follows a January agreement to acquire OMV’s 50% stake in the company.
