Nama announces $2.6-billion investment in Oman’s power sector
MUSCAT, May 28, 2025 – Nama Group will invest around USD 2.6 billion in renewable energy projects and digital infrastructure upgrades to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions across Oman’s electricity sector, the company announced on Tuesday.
The announcement was made during Nama Group’s annual media briefing, where executives outlined major initiatives, including the rollout of smart meters, transmission system enhancements and the development of new solar and wind projects.
Said bin Khalaf Al Abri, general manager of planning and project development at Nama Power and Water Procurement Company, said that two solar projects – Ibri 3 at 500 MW and Al Kamil at 280 MW – have been tendered and are expected to be awarded this year. Five solar projects are scheduled to be awarded in 2025. “Our goal is to raise the share of contracted renewable capacity to 30% of total contracted electricity by 2030,” he said.
The company also highlighted progress in grid infrastructure, noting that 116 power stations have been built, including 17 high-voltage stations operating at 400 kV. In the water sector, the group also reported significant expansion in infrastructure.
