TotalEnergies selected for France’s largest renewables project

PARIS, September 24, 2025 – TotalEnergies, in consortium with RWE, has been selected to design, build and operate France’s Centre Manche 2 (AO8) offshore wind farm, a 1.5-GW project off the Normandy coast, TotalEnergies announced on Wednesday.
The wind farm will be located about 40 kilometres offshore Normandy and is the largest renewable project ever undertaken in France. It is expected to command investments of around EUR 4.5 billion and will generate approximately 6 TWh of electricity per year, beginning in 2033. Output will be sold in the French market, with the tariff set by the tender at EUR 66 per MWh.
According to the announcement, consortium partner RWE has communicated a desire to exit the consortium following a review of its investment pipeline. Should RWE leave the project, TotalEnergies will assume the commitments of the consortium and will propose bringing a new partner into the venture. RWE’s departure would be subject to approval by the French authorities.
“We are very proud to have won this tender for the construction of the largest renewable energy park in France to date. This project will be the largest investment made by TotalEnergies in France in decades and reflects our deep commitment to our country,” said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
TotalEnergies is currently conducting preliminary studies and will lead the design, construction and operation of the facility. Major components such as wind turbines and electrical cables will be sourced from European suppliers. The company is targeting a FID in early 2029.
TotalEnergies has an offshore wind portfolio totalling 25 GW in generation capacity, with assets located in the UK, US, France, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany and the Netherlands. In France, the company is also developing the 30-MW Eolmed floating wind farm in the Mediterranean.
