TotalEnergies becomes operator of Guyana offshore block
GEORGETOWN, November 11, 2025 – TotalEnergies has signed a production-sharing contract under which it will become operator of Block S4 offshore Guyana, where it holds a 40% stake, the company said on Tuesday.
Partners QatarEnergy and Petronas hold 35% and 25% stakes respectively in the 1,788 square kilometre shallow-water block, located 50-100 kilometres from shore. The initial work programme includes a 2,000-square-kilometre 3D-seismic survey.
“This block fits our strategy of exploring for material, low-cost, and low-emission resources,” TotalEnergies senior vice-president exploration Nicola Mavilla said.
TotalEnergies is a global energy company active in 120 countries. It produces and markets oil, biofuels, natural gas, biogas, low-carbon hydrogen, renewables and electricity. The firm employs more than 100,000 people and places sustainability at the centre of its global operations.
Guyana’s offshore sector has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing oil provinces, with production exceeding 900,000 bpd from the Stabroek Block operated by ExxonMobil. The government is seeking to diversify investment beyond deepwater plays through new shallow-water acreage, as it targets first gas development and expands participation in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
Recent discoveries and steady project sanctioning have positioned the country to surpass 1 million bopd by the late 2020s, solidifying its role as a key driver of regional energy growth.
