Tata Power to build India’s largest solar wafers and ingots facility
BANGALORE, November 12, 2025 – India’s Tata Power plans to establish the country’s largest solar wafers and ingots manufacturing plant, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
The facility will have a capacity of 10 GW and will complement Tata Power’s existing manufacturing chain for solar generation equipment, which includes 4.9 GW of integrated cell and module capacity.
“We find that there’s already adequate capacity of modules and many cell plants are under construction in India,” Tata Power CEO Praveer Sinha told Reuters, explaining the company’s focus on upstream materials.
Tata Power is assessing the use of federal and state financial support for the factory and expects to finalise investment details by the end of 2025. India’s government is preparing output-linked incentives to promote local production of wafers and ingots.
Tata Power is one of India’s largest integrated power companies, operating across generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy. In the solar segment, the company also provides EPC, operations and maintenance services for solar power projects. Tata Power has an EPC project portfolio totalling 9.7 GW and 1 GW of commissioned rooftop solar projects.
