Corteva and BP launch US-UK biofuels joint venture
HOUSTON, January 7, 2026 – Corteva and BP have launched Etlas, a joint venture to produce crop-based oil for biofuels across the USA and UK, the companies said on Monday.
Etlas will use canola, mustard and sunflower grown on existing cropland between food cropping seasons to produce feedstocks for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. Initial supply is planned for 2027 and targets one million tonnes of feedstock annually by the mid-2030s, potentially yielding more than 800,000 tonnes of biofuels.
“This capital light joint venture creates optionality in our biofuels value chain,” BP senior vice-president Philipp Schoelzel said.
Corteva’s seed executive vice-president Judd O’Connor added, “Agriculture is part of the solution, and we are excited to see Etlas come to life.”
Etlas will be led by Corteva’s Ignacio Conti as CEO, with BP’s Gaurav Sonar as chair of the board.
Corteva is a US-based agricultural company offering seed technology, crop protection and digital solutions. In the US, its R&D capabilities and farmer relationships are a key strength. bp is expanding its low-carbon operations and fuels portfolio in the USA and UK, aiming to meet demand for renewable transport fuels and decarbonisation targets.
