Romualdo Tellería Gomez, CEO of Grupo Industrial Tellería, talks to The Energy Year about the company’s involvement in Mexico’s energy industry. The Group is a Mexican international corporation made up of eight companies in Mexico, the USA and Colombia. Its companies specialise in engineering, construction, automation and maintenance of bulk material handling solutions, and the transportation of heavy and oversized cargo.

Tell us about Grupo Industrial Tellería and its involvement in Mexico’s energy industry.
Our involvement in the energy sector has been a key part of our trajectory since 1968, particularly through our company Transportes Tellería, now Transtell. While our group has diversified to support multiple industries as part of our growth strategy, the energy sector remains a strategic focus for us. We actively contribute to energy infrastructure projects, including the construction, expansion and maintenance of critical facilities, not only with the heavy, oversized or specialised transportation, but also with rigging, lifting and mounting. We have participated in the vast majority of the main power-generation projects in México, including hydroelectric, geothermic, combined-cycle plants and clean energy projects. We also participate in refineries and offshore oil platforms, moving their oversized cargo.
In the petrochemicals sector, SYCSA – another company of our group – has been involved in various projects requiring the handling of bulk solid materials. We have manufactured ASME code-compliant pressurised tanks and developed engineering projects for offshore drilling support. For instance, we have delivered projects to provide bulk material handling systems for barite and other materials used in well cementation processes.
These projects were developed to support the operations of key industry players that play vital roles in offshore oil exploration and drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico, and our tailored engineering solutions have contributed to improving efficiency and operational reliability in these environments.
In the petrochemicals sector, SYCSA has also been involved in various projects for manufacturing raw materials and others processes that are crucial for plastic production, including resins and compounds. Their products and our turnkey solutions are used in the manufacturing of pipes, cables and other industrial applications used in the Energy Sector.
Our engineering firm SYCSAtech plays a crucial role in integrating advanced services such as point cloud scanning, which enables precise and efficient project execution in complex industrial settings.

What is your outlook for the future of the energy industry, and how is Grupo Industrial Tellería positioning itself?
The energy sector is poised for a dynamic transformation driven by technological advancements, environmental imperatives and geopolitical shifts. The global push toward net-zero emissions will continue and will be accelerating investment in renewable energy, energy storage and clean hydrogen. In Mexico, this transition will be gaining more momentum.
Energy storage will play a critical role in stabilising renewable supply, particularly in regions with high solar irradiation like northern Mexico. Additionally, green hydrogen production is emerging as a key opportunity, with Mexico’s geographic position providing strategic advantages.
The petrochemicals industry will continue to thrive by adopting circular economy practices and leveraging cleaner feedstock alternatives. Companies that embrace innovation and sustainability will lead the way. Companies operating in this space must focus on building cleaner production processes, agile supply chains, integrating digital twins, and enhancing predictive maintenance capabilities to ensure asset reliability.
