The Commercial Bank of Kuwait (Al-Tijari) is Kuwait’s second-oldest bank. Established in 1960, the bank today provides banking products and services to corporate and personal customers in Kuwait and internationally through two banking divisions:

  • Corporate and retail banking, which offers lending, deposit and banking services
  • Treasury and investment banking, dedicated to money market, foreign exchange, treasury bonds, asset management, and brokerage services.

Al-Tijari derives most of its revenue from corporate banking. The division has several specialised departments that cater to clients in different business sectors, including a dedicated oil and gas unit. They offer solutions ranging from short-term working capital loans to longer-term capital expenditure and investment loans, and they extend direct financing and participate in syndicated loans to finance large government and PPP projects.

Through an international division, the bank maintains reciprocal relationships with non-Kuwaiti financial institutions in order to support multinational companies in their business activities in Kuwait and elsewhere, and to diversify the bank’s geographical exposure.

Al-Tijari has an independent risk management division that monitors the bank’s portfolio and activities through three functional areas: credit risk management; operational, fraud and information security risk management; and enterprise risk management.
