ABB wins $100-mln telecom contract in UAE

On Thursday, ABB a Swiss technology firm, was awarded a contract by Hyundai Heavy for the installation of a telecommunication and electrical system at the Nasr oil play located in the UAE, around 100 kilometres northwest of Abu Dhabi. Once completed, the field will produce around 300,000 barrels of oil per day.

The contract will include power management and the installation of a fully integrated power-from-shore telecommunications systems.

“ABB’s extensive experience in offshore oil and gasfield electrification ensures high reliability and minimises life-cycle costs, while trimming the oilfields’ environmental footprint,” said ABB Process Automation division president Peter Terwiesch.

ABB is part of the ongoing development of the Nasr field, completing the its front-end engineering and design subsequent construction phases. The current extension of services will be completed by the company’s engineering series and project management arm by the close of 2016.
