ADNOC signs CCS partnership with Santos

ABU DHABI, November 23, 2023 – ADNOC has signed a strategic collaboration partnership with Australian E&P company Santos to develop a joint global carbon management platform throughout the Asia-Pacific region and CCS assets worldwide, the Emirati NOC announced on Tuesday.

Under the agreement, the partners will also explore carbon dioxide shipping and transportation.

“Through this partnership, ADNOC and Santos will work together aiming to scale-up the carbon management technologies of the future while leveraging our combined expertise and experience in safely transporting, capturing and storing carbon to help markets in the Asia-Pacific decarbonize,” said Musabbeh Al Kaabi, executive director of low carbon solutions and international growth of ADNOC.

 

ADNOC has set a target to have 10 million tonnes of CCS capacity by 2030.

The company currently operates the Al Reyadah facility that has the capacity to process 800,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide.

In September 2023, ADNOC made its FID on one of the largest CCS projects in the MENA region at its Habshan gas processing plant.

The company also made its FID on the Hail and Ghasha gasfield project in October 2023 that includes capture and storage of 1.5 million tonnes per year of carbon dioxide.
