Angola, Zambia sign MoU to study $2-billion pipelines

Representatives of Angola and Zambia have signed an MoU to study the construction of cross-border oil products and gas pipelines, with an expected investment of USD 2 billion.

Feasibility studies for the projects are anticipated to take up to two years, Angolan Minister of Petroleum Diamantino Azevedo said in a statement published by the country’s petroleum ministry on Thursday.

The USD 2-billion investment will be carried out “without recourse to public funds,” according to the statement.

The pipelines fall under a development known as the Angola-Zambia Oil Pipelines project, or AZOP.

Construction of the pipelines could create 12,000-14,000 jobs across the two countries, the ministry said. A full 4,000 permanent jobs are anticipated from the new infrastructure.
