Bahrain Chamber highlights strategic proposals for energy industry
MANAMA, May 27, 2025 – The head of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry has highlighted strategic proposals for the country’s energy industry that emerged during last month’s Bab Al Bahrain Forum.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday and quoted by Zawya, Bahrain Chamber chairman Sameer Nass said 36 key strategic proposals had emerged from the gathering.
Proposals specific to the energy industry include spurring renewable energy adoption through new laws, improving efficiency in large-scale industries and establishing an independent sustainable energy authority.
“The transition to green energy is not just an environmental imperative but a significant economic opportunity for Bahrain,” Zawya quoted the chairman as saying.
Established in 1939 to represent Bahrain’s private sector, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry is the oldest chamber in the Gulf region. Its mission is to advocate for business interests, influence economic policy, and foster a competitive business environment. Open to members from all sectors, it offers services such as commercial document attestation, economic research, training, dispute resolution and platforms for business engagement.
The chamber also plays an active role in supporting SMEs through initiatives like the “Tijjar” programme and in expanding Bahrain’s global business presence via international partnerships and MoUs. It engages with government and international entities to promote trade and investment, making it a driver of the country’s economic development.
Held under the theme “Shaping a Sustainable Future through Trade and Employment,” the Bab Al Bahrain Forum 2025, organised by the Bahrain Chamber, was held in April under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the forum convened at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay.
The international platform brought together prominent figures, including WTO director-general Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, International Labour Organization director-general Gilbert Houngbo and GCC Secretary General Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, to discuss global economic shifts and explore innovative solutions for sustainable growth.
Key topics included the role of public-private partnerships, digital transformation, and the integration of green technologies in economic development. The forum underscored Bahrain’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and positioning itself as a leading hub for trade and investment in the region.
