Basra Oil to operate Iraq’s Majnoon oilfield

BASRA, November 8, 2017 – Iraqi NOC Basra Oil is to take over operation of the Majnoon oilfield from Royal Dutch Shell by the beginning of July 2018, international media reported on Wednesday.

“We agreed that eight months is quite enough time for Shell to finish preparations to exit Majnoon,” an anonymous Iraqi official told Reuters, adding that a meeting to resolve the outstanding issues related to the exit was held on Monday. A second anonymous source also confirmed the information to the agency.

Reports that Shell was to divest from Majnoon following financial disagreements with the Iraqi government first surfaced in September. Under the deal reached on Monday, Iraqi workers at the field will be retained, the report added.
