BP launches drilling at Platina field in Angola

LUANDA, October 20, 2020 – BP has launched development drilling at the Platina field in Angola’s deep waters, the company announced on Tuesday.

The field, located in BP-operated Block 18, holds 44 million barrels of crude reserves. BP and partner <a href='https://theenergyyear.com/companies-institutions/sonangol/’>Sonangol plan to produce 30,000 bopd from the asset.

 

The development drilling scheme involves two production wells and two water injection wells. The wells will tie back to the Greater Plutonio FPSO vessel.

Drilling is being undertaken with the drillship DS-12, owned by Valaris, which is chartered to work on the project until January.
