BP spuds first well at Cypre gas play off Trinidad

PORT OF SPAIN, February 27, 2024 – BP has launched drilling at its inaugural well at the Cypre gas development offshore Trinidad and Tobago, local subsidiary bpTT announced last week.

The well is the first of seven planned at the project, which will utilise existing infrastructure, connecting gas from the Cypre field to the company’s Juniper platform off Trinidad’s southeast coast.

The project received the green light in September 2022 and first gas is expected in 2025.

“Cypre is a significant investment for bpTT to continue to maintain production,” bpTT president David Campbell said.

The Cypre gasfield is located 78 kilometres off the southeast coast of Trinidad within the East Mayaro block, in a water depth of approximately 80 metres. At its peak, the development is expected to deliver an average gas production of 7.08-8.5 mcm (250-300 mcf) per day.
