Shearwater wins ExxonMobil seismic work offshore Trinidad
PORT OF SPAIN, January 16, 2026 – Shearwater Geoservices has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil Trinidad and Tobago Deepwater for a 3D seismic acquisition campaign in Trinidad and Tobago’s deepwater acreage, Shearwater said on Thursday.
The survey will cover approximately 6,000 square kilometres and gather seismic data to support ExxonMobil’s planned oil and gas exploration efforts in the area. Operations are set to begin in Q1 2026, with an expected duration of five months.
Shearwater will deploy its Amazon Warrior vessel for the job and use multi-component Isometrix streamer technology to capture high-resolution seismic imaging in water depths of 2,000-3,000 metres.
In August 2025, Trinidad and Tobago agreed to award ExxonMobil seven offshore blocks in the Ultra Deep 1 – or UD (1) – area located off the east coast of Trinidad and northwest of the prolific Stabroek block in Guyana, where ExxonMobil also holds acreage.
The award could lead to investments of up to USD 27.1 billion, Trinidadian energy minister Roodal Moonilal stated at the time of the award of the acreage, which is larger than Trinidad and Tobago’s land mass.
ExxonMobil exited Trinidad and Tobago in the early 2000s after previous shallow-water exploration yielded limited results. Its return under a new ultra-deepwater framework follows years of regional success and improved understanding of Caribbean geology.
Shearwater Geoservices is a global marine geoscience company headquartered in Bergen, Norway. It provides offshore seismic data acquisition and processing services worldwide using proprietary technology and a fleet of high-capacity seismic vessels.
