TotalEnergies, BluEnergies sign Liberia offshore exploration deal
Liberia MONROVIA, January 15, 2026 – BluEnergies has partnered with TotalEnergies to jointly explore a deepwater fan play in the Harper Basin offshore Liberia, the Canadian independent said on Thursday.
The companies signed a joint study and application agreement to evaluate hydrocarbons potential across three contiguous blocks in the basin. The work programme includes reprocessing 6,100 square kilometres of 3D-seismic data acquired in 2013 and acquiring new sea bottom data.
TGS is leading the reprocessing effort using modern imaging workflows to deliver enhanced reservoir imaging, with final products due in Q3 2026.
The reprocessed data will improve imaging of Upper Cretaceous plays and support more robust prospect evaluation. A reconnaissance licence covering 8,924 square kilometres has been granted and runs until June 2027.
“By entering into this joint study with TotalEnergies, we are progressing towards unlocking Liberia’s offshore potential,” BluEnergies executive vice-president and general counsel Enzo Insalaco said.
Under the agreement, BluEnergies holds a 35% interest and TotalEnergies 65%. Reconnaissance expenditures under the licence are recoverable.
BluEnergies is a Canadian oil and gas company focused on exploration and development in West Africa. The firm engages in deepwater prospect evaluation and is advancing its asset base in Liberia.
TotalEnergies has operated in Liberia since 2021, focusing on upstream exploration along the West Africa Transform Margin. The company’s regional efforts include seismic acquisition and partnerships to unlock offshore hydrocarbons potential.
TGS provides advanced data and intelligence to companies active in the energy sector. Its Liberia Sunfish 3D reprocessing project forms part of a long-term campaign in collaboration with the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) to rejuvenate offshore seismic data coverage, supporting data-driven exploration decisions across the region.
