BP to sell US onshore wind business to LS Power
LAFAYETTE, July 18, 2025 – BP has agreed to sell its US onshore wind business, comprising 10 operating assets with a total net generating capacity of 1.3 GW, to LS Power, the company announced on Friday.
The divestment follows a competitive bidding process and is part of BP’s USD 20-billion programme to simplify and focus its operations. The deal is expected to conclude by year-end, subject to regulatory approvals.
The assets, spread across seven US states, are already supplying power to more than 15 offtakers.
BP Wind Energy operates nine of the assets and holds 100% or 50% stakes in all 10.
The business will transfer to LS Power’s Clearlight Energy portfolio, increasing its operational capacity to approximately 4.3 GW.
“We have concluded we are no longer the best owners to take it forward,” BP executive vice-president William Lin said. “I am pleased we have reached a mutually beneficial deal with LS Power.”
LS Power operates a 21-GW portfolio across renewables, storage, flexible gas and fuels, with over 1,255 kilometres of high-voltage transmission lines and another 563 kilometres in development.
“We look forward to welcoming the talented teams and partnering with them to drive value for our stakeholders,” LS Power CEO Paul Segal said.
