BASF and Equinor sign 10-year gas supply deal
LUDWIGSHAFEN, July 18, 2025 – BASF has signed a 10-year gas supply deal with Equinor for around 2 bcm (70.6 bcf) per year to support its European operations, the companies said on Friday.
Deliveries will begin on October 1, 2025, and cover a significant share of BASF’s gas needs in Europe.
“This agreement further strengthens our partnership with BASF… Gas from Norway comes with the lowest emissions from production and transportation,” Equinor president and CEO Anders Opedal said.
BASF will use the gas both as a fuel and feedstock in chemicals production. The deal supports its efforts to diversify energy and raw material sources while meeting sustainability goals.
“We are very happy to enter into this long-term partnership with Equinor… The supply agreement not only comes with competitive terms but also supports our sustainability targets,” BASF chief financial officer and chief digital officer Dirk Elvermann said.
BASF is a global chemicals company serving nearly every country and sector, with core operations in chemicals, materials, industrial solutions and nutrition. The firm employs around 112,000 people and recorded sales of EUR 65.3 billion in 2024.
