bpTT and EOG deliver first gas at Mento project off Trinidad
PORT OF SPAIN, May 29, 2025 – bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has achieved first gas at the Mento development, a joint venture with EOG Resources, the company said on Thursday.
Mento is a 50/50 joint venture with EOG as the operator and features a 12-slot, attended platform situated off Trinidad’s southeast coast. The project marks BP’s second start-up in 2025 and is one of ten global upstream developments BP plans to bring online between 2025 and 2027, expected to contribute significantly to a combined peak net output of 250,000 boepd.
The Mento platform was constructed at the TOFCO fabrication yard in La Brea, Trinidad. Drilling will continue with seven additional gross wells planned on the platform.
“I am proud to announce first gas from Mento with our partner EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd. For bpTT, this represents our second start-up this year and it is tangible proof of the benefits of partnering with others to bring much needed gas into production,” bpTT president David Campbell said.
“The bpTT/EOG partnership is progressing well as we continue to work on our next joint-venture project, Coconut.”
Previous bpTT and EOG joint developments include EMZ (2011), Sercan (2016) and Banyan (2017). Their next venture, Coconut, is scheduled for start-up in 2027.
bpTT is a subsidiary of bp (70%) and Repsol (30%), with operations focused off the island of Trinidad’s east coast. It operates 12 offshore platforms, three subsea installations and two onshore processing facilities.
