Canacol in new Colombia gas discovery

BOGOTA, March 29, 2024 – Canadian E&P player Canacol Energy has made a new gas discovery in Colombia’s Cienaga de Oro sandstone reservoir, the company announced on Wednesday.

Pomelo 1 exploration well, which was spudded on February 19, 2024, and reached a total depth of 3,742 metres measured depth on March 3, 2024, encountered approximately 29 metres true vertical depth of net gas pay.

The well is producing with a downhole gauge into the Jobo gas treatment facility at a controlled rate of approximately 227,000 cubic metres per day.

Canacol will next conduct additional drilling at the Chontaduro 1 exploration well located approximately three kilometres to the north of the Pomelo discovery, targeting the Cienaga de Oro sandstone reservoir with a secondary uphole target within the Porquero sandstone reservoir, both of which are productive in the area.

It is expected that Chontaduro 1 will be spudded in the first week of April 2024, and will take around three weeks to drill and complete.
